At 24/7 Drainage Solutions, we specialize in repairing and replacing pitch fibre pipes, offering reliable and long-lasting solutions to ensure your drainage system operates efficiently. Commonly used in the mid-20th century, pitch fibre pipes are prone to deterioration over time, leading to blockages, collapses, and costly disruptions. Pitch fibre pipes were widely installed between the 1950s and 1970s as a lightweight and cost-effective alternative to clay pipes. However, due to their material composition (a mix of wood cellulose and coal tar), they degrade over time, becoming misshapen, brittle, and prone to collapse under pressure.
In some cases, if the damage to pitch fibre pipes is not too severe, we can use no-dig repair methods to re-round and reline them.
Re-rounding involves winching heavy re-rounding tools of various sizes through the pipe to remove any bubbling and force the pipe back into shape. This process can re-round the drain to roughly 95% of its original circular diameter before we pass a metal brush through to remove any debris.
Once the pipe has been re-rounded and cleaned, we can reline them to help retain the shape and prevent any future deforming. You can find out more about our relining services on our drain relining page.
If your pitch fibre pipes have degraded beyond repair, then we would need to excavate the section or pipe that is damaged and replace with a modern alternative.
